Elon Musk, as per usual, has been making headlines lately. We like to follow Musk as he is a great innovator and a very interesting example of amazing technology in action. Tesla Model 3 – Will Supply Meet Demand?

It’s been over a week since Tesla Motors unveiled its $35,000 Model 3 electric car.  As of now, prospective owners have now put in orders for more than 325,000 cars.  This was a much larger response than even CEO Elon Musk and Tesla expected.  Musk sent out a tweet relaying that no one at Tesla thought the orders would be that high and that the response was two to four times higher than they expected it to be. This translates into a huge profit in sales –assuming supply can meet demand.

SpaceX Successfully Lands Falcon 9 Rocket

“The Falcon has landed,” these were the words of a launch commentator during SpaceX’s webcast just as applause erupted from SpaceX’s California headquarters, followed by cheers and chants of “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” They’ve done it!  Elon Musk, present at the launch site in Florida, initially thought the rocket had actually crashed with an explosion, but later learned that it had landed in one piece.  This was a huge success.

Not Your Parents' Family Car - The Model X Revealed

Now that the Model X has been fully revealed, we can say that Tesla has officially made the family car cool.  Of all the amazing new specs that make the Model X great, and there are a lot of them, the overall practicality of the car is brilliant.  You may or may not know that Elon Musk has small five children.  This car is a parent’s best friend.  Now I’m not saying that the appeal of the Model X is limited to buyers with families, I’m just saying that dad may not have to drive that minivan after all.  That is, if he has over $132,000 to spend on a new car.

Failed Falcon 9 Rocket to Improve SpaceX Company Culture

There's no question that SpaceX is at the cutting edge of technology and innovation right now, but you can bet that all eyes are on Elon Musk and his company when issues like a failed rocket launch come up.  Recently, on June 28th, SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket –only to fail about two minutes after takeoff from Cape Canaveral.  It is suspected that a faulty two-foot-long, one-inch-thick strut was the cause of this failure.  At the time, the rocket was carrying about 4,000lbs of supplies to the International Space Station (ISS).  The lesson here, I guess, is that even wildly successful companies who have become accustomed to routine things going smoothly (successful launches in SpaceX’s case) can have simple mistakes or malfunctions that create big problems.  Because a recent history of success may be contributing to a sort of complacency within SpaceX’s company culture, this failed rocket launch can actually be a benefit and a lesson to learn from.

Elon Musk and SpaceX Providing Internet Service to the Entire World From Space

Well, Elon Musk is at it again.  Musk’s company SpaceX has now asked the federal government for permission to begin testing on a new project. The idea is to beam internet service from space.  They would be the next Comcast… from outer space.  Interestingly enough, this would launch SpaceX into the category of a major high-speed Internet provider both to those in the developed world and also billions of those not currently online.

Consultants: The Importance of Being an Expert

As a consultant, you’ll run into situations nearly daily where you are meeting new people who want to hear about what you do. I get questions regularly on topics that I consult on. Many times these conversations come up on the spot and out of a normal business environment.  So, what do you do when you’re approached, totally unprepared, and you have to talk about your business out of the blue? Do you know your business well enough that you can stop whatever you’re doing and come up with an intelligent informed conversation? As a consultant, this is a must.
