Apple Falling Behind on AI

We’ve just had a big tech season. Between Facebook’s F8 conference, Google’s I/O Conference and Apple’s most recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) we’ve seen the big plans that these tech companies plan on focusing on over this next year. As a huge Apple supporter, I have to say, companies like Google in particular are giving Apple a run for their money.

Heat Mapping Technology: Hot New Analytics

Predictive analytics are a fantastic way for businesses to collect some truly valuable data about visitors on their websites. Conventional website analytics are able to tell businesses where their visitors are coming from, what they’re clicking on, how much time they’re spending on the site, and more. As a digital marketer, this information could be stronger. There is something called heat mapping technology that can tell you a great deal more about visitors’ habits on a specific website.

Technical Debt is an Opportunity for Improvement

People love to talk about technical debt.  They love to tell each other to “work smarter, not harder” and not to double your work by speeding up development today knowing you’ll have to change it later.  The thing is that people call this debt, but it isn’t.  You have made the best decision that you could at the time.  In development, you have to make compromises along the way.  When you decide to do a feature in a particular way, and you’re going to have to change it later, yes it is more work.  But, it’s also done for now.  The feature is out the door right now.  Instead of considering it debt, consider it an opportunity for improvement in the software.

Apple CEO Tim Cook In Depth

We’ve talked a few times about Apple this year and the direction we think it’s headed.  I’ve made it pretty clear that I don’t think Tim Cook is the man for the CEO position.  This weekend, after 5 years in charge, Cook revealed a lot in a long interview with The Washington Post.  He revealed that running Apple is actually a lonely job filled with long hours, tough decisions, and a lot of weight on your shoulders.

AI: Chatbots

With technology ever improving and ever changing, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is growing by leaps and bounds.  With this comes in a form of AI –the chatbot.  Chatbots are the virtual assistant that you can “chat” with to help get your tasks accomplished.   With technology like this, soon the "chat for help" icons on every website will have you chatting with an AI chatbot instead of a person.  Scary? Maybe –maybe not.

Tesla Model 3 – Will Supply Meet Demand?

It’s been over a week since Tesla Motors unveiled its $35,000 Model 3 electric car.  As of now, prospective owners have now put in orders for more than 325,000 cars.  This was a much larger response than even CEO Elon Musk and Tesla expected.  Musk sent out a tweet relaying that no one at Tesla thought the orders would be that high and that the response was two to four times higher than they expected it to be. This translates into a huge profit in sales –assuming supply can meet demand.

The Next Revolution in AI: How it Impacts You

We’ve talked a little about how the AI in our existing devices works and how it needs to improve moving forward in order to better assist us.  What is the next big move in AI though?  Well, many think it will be an artificial intelligence living right in your ear.  In fact, it seems that in-ear assistants similar to the one featured in the movie Her aren't science fiction at all; but rather an imminent reality.  There are obviously a million different implications if this fully comes to fruition.  But, specifically, what does this mean to you as a business person? How will this impact your working world?

Consultants: The Importance of Being an Expert

As a consultant, you’ll run into situations nearly daily where you are meeting new people who want to hear about what you do. I get questions regularly on topics that I consult on. Many times these conversations come up on the spot and out of a normal business environment.  So, what do you do when you’re approached, totally unprepared, and you have to talk about your business out of the blue? Do you know your business well enough that you can stop whatever you’re doing and come up with an intelligent informed conversation? As a consultant, this is a must.
