Guest Blogging – A Two Way Street?

Marketers who are creating original content for their readers are already utilizing a very influential avenue.  When you create a following by being an “expert” in your field or across a certain set of topics, your business gets more visibility by potential customers and clients.  What do you do when you want to expand that reach? How do you get in front of a new set of readers? If you already have a very large following, how do you create a new experience for your current followers?  Guest blogging –for all of the above.

If you are already writing articles for your brand, and have a pretty good following, guest blogging can be a great way to expand. Finding websites, newsletters, and influencers who are willing to post and share your content can skyrocket your readership.  You are reaching a whole new base of people who are interested in the topics you are writing about and may then be interested in your business.  Treat guest blogging appearances as a first impression to potential customers, clients, and readers.  How do you want to present yourself? Make sure your articles are well put together and relevant to what those readers want.  Also, any opportunity you have to link back to your website or reference your business –take it. Different people will have different rules about what they do or don’t want you to mention in an article. You obviously need to respect those guidelines when submitting an article, but remember to do what you can when it comes to promotion or at least linking to your original work.

For those who are looking to create a great experience for your current readers and followers –consider having guest bloggers post to your own newsletter or website.  This can be a great way to offer your readers variety and unique perspectives.  If you have interesting content coming in from multiple great sources, more people are going to be likely to follow what you are putting out there. You’ll become a preferred outlet for readers on your subject.

The trick can be actually finding guest bloggers to submit articles to you or finding other businesses that will allow you to guest blog for them.  This is a shame, because it is such a mutually beneficial endeavor.  For example, we are always looking for guest bloggers to feature on our website and in our weekly newsletter and we hardly ever receive submissions.  We also would love to work with another company and be a guest blogger for them. We’ve got some great content to share! It can be difficult to find another brand to collaborate with.  Once you find a good fit, run with it.  You can feature someone as often as you like or just have a one time guest appearance.  The same is true if you are guest blogging. Decide if you want a regular, repeat spot or if you are just looking to submit one article at a time to different outlets.

Original content is kind in this marketing world. If you can figure out a way to incorporate other fresh content into your plans or to get your content in front of a new reader base, you’re going to go that much farther.  Are you looking to submit articles to be featured in our weekly newsletter and on our website?
