Tomorrow, October 9th, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk will be unveiling the D and something else. How do we know? Well he sent out a mysterious tweet Oct. 1 that said just that. What exactly does that mean? Well, we won’t know for sure until we hear it –but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate! It’s widely assumed that the “D” to be unveiled is referring to the dual motors in an AWD Model S. The question remains: what else will be revealed? Also, were we correct about the dual motors? Or is the “D” something else?
So, let’s speculate. Here are a couple of working theories about what Tesla will be unveiling tomorrow:
Driver assist features (including a system that would automatically keep the vehicle in its lane). Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry published a few pictures of a recently manufactured Tesla Model S equipped with semi-autonomous-driver-assistance-system (SADAS). You can see from those pictures that there is a RADAR sensor in the front grille, cameras, and a sensor in the rear view mirror.
The “D” is actually a new car. This would be the Model D that Musk will unveil tomorrow at his event.
Some believe that Tesla might announce a second Gigafactory tomorrow.
Tesla also has two other vehicles in the works that we know about. These are the Model X, which is due for launch in early spring 2015, and its Model 3, a smaller sedan aimed at the mass market with an affordable $35,000 price point, due for launch in 2017. It’s possible that either vehicle could be shown off during the event.
So, what’ll it be? Well, we’re not entirely sure. What we are sure about is that Elon Musk managed to stir up quite a buzz with that little tweet. We’ll see tomorrow what was unveiled and which theory was correct. What do you think? Any speculation about the Tesla announcements? Share with a comment below!
